Bronze - The Iron Claw
Not a movie I thought I would enjoy based on the topic—a sports drama about wrestling—but I never tapped out. This movie was heart-wrenching and filled with passion. Set in the 70s, the film teaches us to hold our loved ones close. The brotherhood depicted is heartwarming yet tragic, highlighting the price of the American Dream. The narration and storytelling are beautifully executed, and Zac Efron delivers an outstanding performance—his eyes say it all.
The movie focuses on four brothers: Kevin, Kerry, David, and Mike. The narrative, led by the oldest brother Kevin (played by Zac Efron), reveals their struggle for their father’s approval. Although there were five brothers in reality, the youngest, Chris, was omitted to keep the story focused. This family is the Kennedys of wrestling in terms of tragedy. The setting, music, and acting are excellent, though the tension can feel overwhelming at times—does every scene need to feel like a nervous breakdown?
At its core, the movie examines the immense sacrifices required to leave a legacy. Each brother sacrifices relationships, health, and happiness to pursue greatness, raising the question: is it worth the cost? Moments of stillness contrast beautifully with the intensity of the wrestling scenes, emphasizing the emotional and physical toll of their ambition. As Hunter S. Thompson once said, “We were promised a dream. Instead, we live a nightmare where the dream devours all who dare to chase it.” In the end, it reminds us that even legends carry the weight of their choices and losses.
