Honorable Mentions….
Good Grief
Dan Levy's debut film is set to be a comfort movie for me for years to come. His wit and humor are unmistakably showcased throughout the film. Admittedly, the movie has its flaws; it could benefit from more backstory between Marc and Oliver, and it leans on a few clichés like the karaoke scene, a late night at a museum, and the uninhibited mess of a friend. However, I was genuinely impressed by Levy's storytelling ability. The movie effectively captures a story of love and loss.
Rustin
Colman Domingo delivers a great performance, and I really enjoyed learning about this side of history. Before this movie, I didn't know who Bayard Rustin was—an advisor to Martin Luther King Jr. I was completely enthralled by learning more about him; his charm and charisma were undeniable. The impact he had on human rights and racial equality is central, and as an openly gay Black man, he was almost erased from the civil rights movement he helped build.
